Get your dog or cat spayed or neutered at the Arizona Humane Society's low-cost spay, neuter and wellness clinic at the Campus for Compassion in May and you just may get it for free.

To celebrate the south Phoenix clinic's reopening, two pets will spayed or neutered at no cost on surgery days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) during May.
Each pet owner will receive a raffle ticket upon check-in and two winners each day will have surgery fees waived. Winners will be notified when they come to pick up their pets at the end of the day.

All pet owners will receive a 5 percent discount in May on any spay and neuter surgery at AHS' Campus for Compassion, Sunnyslope location and through the mobile clinic.

"In addition to helping control pet overpopulation, spay and neuter surgery contributes to a longer life, as well as reduces the occurrence of undesirable behaviors in pets, " says AHS Public Clinics manager Angela Bartell. Both wellness clinics are accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, so pet owners can rest assured that their pet is receiving excellent care.

Spaying or neutering pets has drawn the attention of Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio, who planned to bring his 5-month-old puppy to the AHS' public clinic on Tuesday.

"By bringing my own puppy in for his neuter surgery, I hope to show others that it's the right thing to do for our pets," he said.

The low-cost clinic is located at the Nina Mason Pulliam Campus for Compassion, 1521 W. Dobbins Road, Phoenix. The clinic is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for spay and neuter surgeries. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners should arrive early as the clinic can accommodate only 30 to 40 surgery patients each day.

The low-cost wellness clinic also offers a walk-in vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. and each Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Cat and dog vaccines are $18 and microchips are $30 including registration. Pets also can receive deworming, testing for canine heartworm and feline leukemia and treatment for fleas and ticks.
